Reading & Knitting

I am busy trying to finish up the presents on my list. Okay, the ones I already have the yarn for. I am still waiting on some of the yarn. I know that it is on its way to me at least. Nothing like waiting to the last minute.

So while I am working on finishing mittens and and other UFO that I found in the pile, I have been reading. I love to read and always have. Trying to narrow down my list of favorite authors and genres is difficult. It is easy to state that there is a very short list of authors that I will not read. But I have always loved Nora Roberts books since I was introduced to them by a college room mate. My room mate was engaged to one of her nephews.

Her latest book is called Blood Brothers. With out spoiling it for anyone who has not read it yet, I will review it briefly.

The story takes places surprisingly in Western Maryland. And it takes place in Washington County, Maryland, which is again a huge surprise, Okay, I will can the sarcasm. Nora Roberts lives in Washington County, Maryland, and in a small town near Hagerstown. (Yes, I know the exact town and have even driven past her house without realizing it was her house. But I will not give out the town name.)

The town in this book, and in other books that she has set in Western Maryland, is fictional but if you are familiar with the area, you can figure out which town it is based on. The town in Blood Brothers is loosely based on Sharpsburg which is near Antietam Battle Field. One of the roads described in the book reminds me of the road leading to a park I like up in Washington County. But the route number is the route number you take to get to Sharpsburg.

The book is like many of her books involving magic about good versus evil and the choices we make. And the choices are not always the easiest ones to make.

Basically if I say anymore, I will spoil the book for anyone who has not read it yet. So go out and pick up a copy and read it. The subject matter is not necessarily a holiday one but the book is really good. I have 5 more months to wait for the next book in the series to come out. That is the one thing I dislike about series is waiting for the next book to come out. But in the meantime, I will finish the new Steve Berry book which just came out yesterday. My brother wanted to borrow the book yesterday right after I got it. He left this morning for a quick business trip to Orlando for some conference or another. I told him to finish one of the other books he has “borrowed” first. Yes, he has borrowed so many books that I kind of don’t plan on seeing them back for quite awhile.

Tonight will be a night spent trying to finish a mitten while watching the Harry Potter marathon on my DVD player. I am patiently waiting for my new HP movie to show up from Amazon. So this isn’t a totally photo-free post, here is a shot of Mimi.
