Returning Slowly

I would like to thank everyone for their kind words following my mother’s death. Although it was expected, you are never prepared. Life is getting back to normal; well as normal as it ever is. Although to be honest my mother still has not been buried. She wanted to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery and regardless of who you are, you have to wait for a spot in their schedule. My mother will finally be buried at the end of July. Several members of my extended family and P and her husband will be coming in for the actual burial.

Photography is still eating up all of my time. I have been knitting some. I am trying to finish up some UFOs that have been on the needles for quite awhile. I have also been spending time in my studio quilting. Again finishing up UFOs. I probably have more quilt related UFOs than knitting ones. I am trying to finish up the UFOs before starting anything new. P and I also decided to go on sock yarn diets. We have to use what is in our stashes just for the summer before we can add new yarns. Of course nothing was said about adding to the other one’s stash…. So some of my sock yarn might find a new home in her stash. Just saying…..

I have actually managed to finish up two pairs of socks that were on the needles when we started our sock yarn diet. I still need to photograph them though. My sock model seems to think that every pair of socks I knit should be for her. Greedy girl!!! She even sent P a SMS asking her to knit her some. Rather cheeky of her actually since she was using my phone.

I have quite a few quilts that just need binding sewn on them right now. But even with the a/c running, it is a little bit warm under a quilt to sew the bindings on. So I am making mini quilts instead. I need to finish one up right now so that I can drop it in the mail. I have also remembered how small a block I am willing to sew. At one point I challenged myself to see how small a block I could comfortably sew and it is 1-1/2 inches. But mini quilts are a great way to use up my scraps.

I will be back to blogging on a regular basis soon. after not blogging for so long I need to get back into the habit of blogging. I try to update Flickr daily. Sometimes Flickr can be every other day though. It all depends on what I have been shooting and editing. (I had planned to add some photos to this post but my computer and WordPress were having an issue today for some reason.)

  1. Welcome back, sweetie. I’m glad to see you return.

And I’m on a sock yarn diet, too. 50+ pairs of socks to be knit out of my stash… But it’s pretty! So hard…

  2. Thinking of you Mia. Do what you need to take care of yourself.

  3. **hugs**

Glad to see you posting again. Don’t forget that if a certain young sock fan wants socks she needs to send measurements. The sock fairy needs to weed some sock yarn out. It may end up at someone’s house… hmmmm

  4. Happy to see you back on the radar, Mia. Hang in there.

  5. I know firsthand that keeping busy and being creative are both wonderful therapy. Big hugs to you and welcome back! 🙂

  6. I’m sorry to not have expressed my symphathies sooner. With all my traveling I’m still catching up. Sorry to hear about the loss of your mother, even expected loss is never what you think it will be.

Quiet time creating sound like a good thing right now.

  7. I am so sorry for your loss Mia.
