Little Problems

The new waterfall in town.

The new waterfall in town.

Okay, not really a little problem but it could be. The town water guys have know that they have a leak in a pipe right up the street from me. The problem is that they couldn’t figure out which pipe. The intersection has been redone several times and the pipes are not exactly where the plans say they are. The crew that has been redoing the water pipes on Main Street are digging up the intersection a small section at a time trying to find the leak. And they found the leaking section today. They had to cut off my water for about an hour earlier to try and get the water pressure off the valve so they can replace the leaking section. And tomorrow and Wednesday though, my water will be turned off from 8 in the morning until about 2 in the afternoon. They are going to replace some of the aging pipes right down the street from me. One nice thing about a small town is that I was told in person this morning when I was walking to the post office. And I also received a note that was hand delivered a little while ago.

And yet another one of the nice things about being in a small town is that when I was walking up to the post office I was called over to the open hole in the middle of the road. I had my camera with me and the guys wanted me to take a picture of the leaking pipe. If I had wanted to, I am sure they would have let me climb down into the hole to take the picture. I know you won’t have that happen in a larger town.

Knitting did happen over the weekend but I forgot to take pictures of it. I am working on a second sock for Sockoberfest that I need to finish before I can start a new sock. I dug out all of my on the needle sock projects and am going to try and work my way through them. l really need to reduce the sock UFO pile. I am also going to try and work on the current Clapotis on the needles to try and finish it as well this month. Lolly is even starting off Sockoberfest by finishing a UFO as well.

Even a broken ankle will not stop me from playing in the garden. I had picked quite a few Roma tomatoes last week and spent yesterday making tomato sauce to freeze. Instead of making spaghetti sauce, I decided to just make a base recipe with sauteed onions, fresh garlic, roasted garlic, and plenty of tomatoes. I actually had more tomatoes than I though I did. I ended up starting out in two soup pots. I have reduced the sauce down to fit into the larger of the two soup pots but I will be reducing it again tonight. I will be freezing this in small freezer bags that will serve about 2 people. I am planning on picking more tomatoes here shortly and making more sauce with it. There is a chance of a frost tonight so I need to pick the tomatoes. I was speaking with my SIL and she has the freezer room so I will make up a batch of the sauce for her to freeze. I could can the tomatoes but I don’t feel like dragging out the canner. Plus I would have to remember where all of the jars are. I think they are in the shed. Might not be a bad idea to can some now that I am thinking about it. Need to think on that one.

  1. Yeah for small towns! I live in a big town in a small state – people don’t tell you AT ALL when they are gonna turn your water off. Just saying.
Yeah for finishing UFO’s. I wonder how many we can complete between the two of us by the end of the month.
And finally…YEAH for tomato sauce. Yours looks very tasty with the garlic and onions. Will you use as is or add more spices when you serve it?

  2. They come knocking here when they are going to turn off the water, about 8 minutes before they do. At least it’s enough time for a super quick rinse off for the day!
My be the only tree in town with color, but it sure is gorgeous!
